The legal revision of the new technologies of warfare: Military drones and autonomous weapons

Abstract

The theme of armed conflict has always been one of the most important in the field of International Relations, especially in the area of security studies, as well as in International Humanitarian Law (IHL). These are issues that are debated in the international environment, since they are directly related to the very survival of States in an anarchic environment (AUST, 2005). However, what history has to reveal to us is that contemporary conflicts have characteristics not previously seen in past armed conflicts. These transformations were due to advances in technology, tactics, strategies and the emergence of new international actors (SHAW, 2003).
